Illustration

Illustrations have always been a way to express my feelings and to capture small moments that would usually be forgotten. You will find some of my favorite pieces I have worked on, including art work in ink, water color, and gouache. Enjoy!

Cafe No. 1

2026

Garvey_Grace_Cafe.JPG

Cafe No. 1 is the first in a series of pieces where people can find tranquility in a cafe. It focuses on how something as simple as a coffee can be chaotic visually but calming at the same time. My goal is to show how a small moment can be meaningful yet forgettable.

Cafe No. 2

2026

Cafe No. 2 is the second in the series of cafe portraits. This piece shows the connection people can have over a cup of coffee or tea. I wanted to convey the emotion of intimacy in a large space, using dark ink to block out the commotion of the outside world.

Cafe No. 3

2026

IMG_5204.JPG

Cafe No. 3 is the third in the series, showing how a simple interaction of getting a drink can be meaningful and stay with you. Yes, the environment is loud but the transaction of goods create a sense of connection between people who may have never met before.

Cafe No. 4

2026

IMG_5207.JPG

Cafe No. 4 is the last piece in the ink series, this illustration showing the loneliness that can be felt behind a bar in a cafe. The bartender may be interacting with others but there is a sense of detachment from the people around them.

Jazz Night

2025

Garvey_Grace_Jazz-Night.jpg

Jazz night is a representation of community and about the people who support one another by showing up. The piece seems to drown out the quietness of a cafe and bring it to life though music. This ink piece shows the intimacy jazz can bring.

In The Park

2024

Garvey_Grace_In-The-Park.jpg

Ink The Park is a nod to the quiet moment an artist can have in a crowd. Ink has always been a strong medium that has allowed me to show incredible depth in the subject. It gives the ability to show a piece in its truest form, light and dark.

Home Study

2024

Scan 9_edited.jpg

This piece is done in ink, focusing on painting quickly from life before a storm. On a warm summers day, a piece can be full of life through its expression of color. A home is what you make of it, not the house itself.

Spring

2023

Garvey_Grace_Easter.jpg

Ink is a way of communication for me as an artist. I work on layering small amounts of color and seeing how far I can push something as simple as an animal study. My goal is to create the essence of Spring through simplistic colors and figures.

Goldfish
2022

Garvey_Grace_Goldfish.jpg

Goldfish is a study on color when I was learning ink and layering color on top of each other. Starting from incredibly light to dark rich colors. I focus on how the background does not need line work to insinuate the idea of figures depth.

Hana

2021

Garvey_Grace_Hana.jpg

Hana is all in hatching to show the loneliness, uncertainty, and the quiet acceptance of moving on. To represent these feelings I blacked out the background to show an emptiness and to truly focus on the subject. The hatching was done with a quill, some marks hard and rough while others soft and thoughtful, each mark representing its own fight with acceptance.

Birthday Surprise

2021

Copy of Birthday172 (1).jpg

This surprise was to show the true happiness of small actions one dose for another. Something simple blossoming into a moment that will never be forgotten. Using gradients of grays to mute the piece into something almost tranquil and peaceful.

Florida Animals Playing Poker

2021

This fun yet simple illustration was to see how I could accomplish animals in an anthropomorphic light. It was also one of the first pieces I used color, learning the medium with a unique subject matter.
